Healthier Nations In Smoking Ban

Scotland and Ireland began what initially was considered as an impossible task and unattainable goal. Yet when these nations implemented the initial rounds of , it proved skeptics wrong and triggered the start of an aggressive advocacy against the perils of smoking. As such, smoking ban has become the rallying point for other nations and governments faced with the overwhelming demand for a collective effort against smoking. By middle of this year, 2007 shall see a similar smoking ban in the United Kingdom that will cover restaurants, bistros, pubs and other public establishments. Smoking ban that will see a clear picture of the international “No Smoking” sign.

Smoking ban that will now run alongside the picture of a cigarette inside the red circle with a bar signifying smoking is not allowed. With this, the ban can not be any clearer and direct. Similar signs will also be in prominent display in buses and all taxis plying throughout the major streets of United Kingdom. The order is out – the words “No Smoking” must be readable that will outlaw smoking in areas identified to be within the area. So serious is the intent to make that drastic move against smoking that including in the ban are vehicles taken by workers to and from respective workplaces.



Smoking will be so regulated that both no smoking areas and designated smoking areas are to be identified and established by the time smoking ban is in full force and effect in the United Kingdom. Smokers will soon find themselves the minority with the smoking ban intended to give full government protection to non-smokers from the perils of cigarette and tobacco-smoking. Workplaces are especially targeted in the smoking ban imposition all in the collective goal of achieving a healthier nation, healthier community and healthier people. Set to be put to test are nearly 4 million of businesses in United Kingdom alone that once catered to both smokers and non-smokers.

Not only will business be closely watched and monitored for any significant changes in terms of turn-out of the business climate but the customers and people themselves. Expected and aimed at is a healthier and more brisk business alongside healthier direct stakeholders. So Scotland, Ireland and the United Kindom, great nations linked with one single goal in effecting smoking ban in their respective nations and governments. France is also one of that introduced a partial ban early of February this year with total smoking ban in public places come 2008. The United States of America has since been an advocate against smoking with varied efforts utilized to effect smoking ban or at least, make smoking an unpopular and impractical decision.

For instance, revenue or taxes imposed on the cigarette industry is far higher if compared to say ten years back. And advertising that once depicted cigarette and tobacco smoking to be “cool” has now presented a totally different picture.
