When one takes into consideration all the yoga styles,
may be the most controversial of them all. Tantric yoga may often be associated with sexual hang-ups as some believe that the yoga practice is linked to the Kama Sutra. But what actually is the nature of tantric yoga? Simply stated, tantric yoga is integration by controlling sexual energy. The origins of tantric yoga and the Kama Sutra date back to the 4th century A.D. Vatsyayana Mallanaga, the author of the Kama Sutra remains to be somewhat of a mystery in history books. He did write the most famous sex manual to date although there are no traces of him to be found.
Tantric yoga had its beginnings in Northern India after which the
practice migrated further to Tibet and China and eventually going global. Contemporary tantric yogis often prefer to practice tantric yoga of Indian or Tibetan origin. Practitioners of tantric yoga focus on the universe’s opposites and dualities such as those of the male and female, Yin and Yang and the Shiva and Shakti. Tantric yoga has many similarities with other forms of yoga practice being an incorporation of the many components of yoga styles such as asanas, pranayama, mudras, meditation, yantra, kundalini and the bhakti. Yogis often define this sort of yoga practice as the most difficult to define, although a fundamental difference can be ascertained.
Other forms of yoga generally train their students to denounce desire which is the stark contrast to tantric yoga. In fact, the major difference is that tantric yoga teaches its practitioners to embrace desire. Such is basically the foundation and the dividing line between this yoga practice and all the other forms of classic Indian yoga styles. Within certain Tantric followings, ritual tantric sex has been considered as commonplace at certain points in time. But contrary to what some may believe, tantric sex is not as commonplace as it seems. Others also have the notion that tantric sex is intentionally prolonged but such is not always the case.
At times, practitioners of tantric sex let the method takes its own course. And with Kama Sutra in relation to tantric yoga, the sex manual was generally considered as a racy classic at the time of its writing, and more so during conservative points in history. In today’s standards, however, the society may take less offense with the Kama Sutra and tantric yoga. Apparently, some of today’s entertainment has made the public more callous than it normally was.
and the Kama Sutra are examples of the cycle and evolution of the human morality. To date, there may be some debates as to whether they are right or wrong, but in due time, the moral code is bound to change.
